  “Restaurants Protecting Our Environment”

Green Star Restaurants are individual restaurants that have made a commitment to our environment and our natural resources.  The owners and managers of each restaurant that carries the Green Star Restaurant seal has pledged to make a steady pace of changes to use less energy and to reduce their overall impact on our planet.

We are all living on the same small planet, and we want our children and grandchildren to inherit a cleaner and more sustainable planet earth.  In the last 100 years humans have done tremendous harm to our environment in the name of progress, at the same time we have become more dependant on expensive foreign fuel.  Our goal is to eliminate that dependency, and to slow the rate of damage to our environment.  Hopefully one day we will be able to reverse the impact of what has already been done.

Between the United States and Canada there are over one million restaurants, our goal is to get them all to significantly reduce their impact on our environment.

Restaurants that proudly display the “Green Star Restaurant” signs have committed to this journey because these restaurant managers and owners know that their actions today will impact tomorrow.

If you own or manage a restaurant, click on the "Restaurant Managers" link at the top of this page to find out how your restaurant can go green and make a difference; if you are a dining patron please read on.

As an individual, what can I do to help?

For the biggest impact (and the simplest to do) print some of our "Go Green Cards" - they are free.

  • Give each restaurant you visit a simple "Go Green Card".  Give one to the waiter, or the counter worker, the host or the manager each time you dine out.  When you have take out delivered give one to the delivery person.  This will tell them how to learn more and what they can do to help.  It’s the easiest way to make a big difference.  This way you can have an impact beyond your own back yard.  For your free "Go Green Cards" click on the "Go Green Cards" tab on the left of this page.

 You can also:

  • Look for products with less or no packaging. Packaging is one of the biggest energy consumers, energy waste, and trash creators.
  • Recycle
  • Compost

Simply making the most of items one, two and three above you will notice a significant decrease in trash that your home creates each week.  Many people tell us that they have gone from three trash cans a week down to less than one.

  • Look for local products – these require less fuel to transport.
  • Send this information to a friend
  • Send this page to some of your local restaurants (fine dining, casual pubs, your favorite coffee shop, even your local pizza place) the more the better.
  • When you see the Green Star sign at a restaurant please be sure to tell the manager that you appreciate their commitment to our environment.

Thank you for caring about our enviorment.

As consumers you have many choices when you dine out – thank you for choosing to dine at Green Star Restaurants.  If your favorite restaurant, is not a Green Star Restaurant, then please ask them to join in our mission - it’s the right thing to do!
